Duke HC Jon Scheyer Gets Plaudits by Latest Transfer Portal Addition

Highly rated transfer John Blackwell has committed to Jon Scheyer’s Duke.

When asked about his decision to transfer from Wisconsin in the Big 10 to Duke in the ACC, he said:

“So first of all, I just want to thank Wisconsin. The whole fan base of Wisconsin. The coaching staff and just everybody who was involved in my time at Wisconsin. But why I chose Duke, it just felt right. It felt right for me from the jump. When I talked to coach Scheyer and coach Diddley hit me up and we chatted and, you know, it just felt like the right situation for me. Then when I got on campus, it just confirmed everything that I was looking for.”

Duke has always been blessed with some of the best players in college basketball. For the last two years, for example, Jon Scheyer had two of the brightest talents under his leadership, Cooper Flagg and Cameron Boozer. Despite some great rosters, the national championship has eluded Duke for 11 years now.

With Boozer this season, they were touted to become the national champions. Duke was one of the best teams this season, and Boozer might just become one of the top three picks in the NBA draft. With him leaving Duke, there is now a gaping hole in quality, which is expected to be filled by John Blackwell, who averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 34 games last season. He also earned an inclusion in the 2025-26 All-Big Ten team.
