The Saint Mary’s Gaels will face Loyola Marymount in a road West Coast Conference clash.
In order for the No. 23-ranked Gaels to come out with a win, they are going to need freshman guard Mikey Lewis to step up off the bench.

Mikey Lewis: A Great Bench Player
A native of Oakland, Calif., Lewis is one of the nation’s best bench players, as insider Jon Rothstein noted recently.
“Saint Mary’s freshman Mikey Lewis has quietly emerged into one of the best sixth men in the sport.”

Lewis is starting to heat up, as he has put up a combined 30 points over the last games.
His 18 points in the team’s win against Gonzaga tied his season-high.
The 6’3″, 180-pound guard is shooting over 41% from three-point range and is just starting to scratch the surface for longtime head coach Randy Bennett.
He could be a real star in the making, especially as he plays in more big games, which should be coming down the pipe for the Gaels this season.
The Gaels Are Sneaky
A team like Saint Mary’s might not get the same publicity as a team from the Big Ten, SEC, or ACC, but that might be how the team likes it.
As the team sits at a record of 25-4, it has had little difficulty proving to be one of the nation’s most complete teams. Bennett’s team has lost just one game since Christmas, which is an outstanding mark.
Now, it is fair to say that the Gaels do not have as tough a schedule as a team from a stronger conference. However, they have been able to stifle teams such as Gonzaga, Washington State, Oregon State, Utah, USC, and Nebraska.

Regardless of those teams’ records, they are schools with either a strong pedigree or experience playing in a stronger conference. Six players on this team, including Lewis, are averaging at least 8.0 points per game this year.
With Bennett’s experience at the helm and the team’s balance, it could go far in March if everyone owns their role and performs at a high level.
