Louisville Cardinals’ Mikel Brown Jr. has been sidelined for over a month due to a back injury. In his absence, the Cardinals have played eight games and are 4-4 on the sheet. Overall, they have won 13 games and have lost five.
The freshman point guard has been so instrumental in the Cardinals’ run this season that in his absence, they’ve started to fall apart. Their overall numbers have taken a hit, and the Cardinals are losing important games.
That has created a lot of anticipation around his return, or at least the timeline. Fans have been checking every updated injury report to see if Brown is coming back or not. Their prayers have been answered.
As per the Cardinals’ recent injury report, reposted on X by The Field of 68, the point guard is ready to take the court today. Louisville will face the Virginia Tech Hokies on its home court, KFC Yum! Center.
The two Cardinals mentioned on the injury report are Khani Rooths and Spencer Legg. Both players have been ruled ‘out’ for the Hokies game. Virginia Tech has listed only Tyler Johnson, ‘out’, on the injury report.
It’s finally time for Brown to lace up for his team. In the 10 games he has played this season so far, he is averaging 16.6 points on 38.1% shooting with 3 rebounds and 5.1 assists. His presence has been vital for the Cardinals.
They lost just one game, against the Arkansas Razorbacks, with Brown in the lineup. Despite his 22-point effort on nearly 37% shooting from the field, the Cardinals were unable to avoid the 80-89 loss. With Brown back in the lineup, Louisville can start getting back on track.
Louisville Head Coach on Mikel Brown Jr.’s Injury
Brown picked up the lower back injury in December 2025. At the time, the recovery and return timeline for the point guard was unclear. Pressure started piling up when the Cardinals started losing games.
After a 21-point loss against Tennessee, head coach Pat Kelsey was asked about Brown and the timeline of his return. Kelsy didn’t have an answer to that question and directed it toward the medical staff.
“I don’t know. You’d have to ask the medical people in that,” Kelsey SAID. “So, you know, in terms of adjusting when somebody goes down, that’s just the deal. Every team in the country, in every single sport, has people go down (with) injuries, and you’ve heard me say this before, and it’s the old sports axiom of, next man up.”
Seemingly frustrated by the loss, Kelsey stated that there are other players on the team, and it’s time they start stepping up their game.
