Hubert Davis has been a coach for around 14 years now. He started his coaching career in North Carolina as an assistant from 2012 to 2021. In 2021, he was appointed as the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. He won the NCAA championship as the assistant to head coach Roy Williams in 2017.
As for his head coaching stint, he led North Carolina to the Final Four in 2022 and to the ACC regular-season championship in 2024, for which he also won the ACC Coach of the Year award. In five years at North Carolina, he has maintained a win record of 116-49.
This season has been a little hot-and-cold so far for North Carolina. They are ninth in the ACC with a 15-4 record. Their four losses this season have come against Michigan State, SMU, Stanford, and California. Apart from MI State, the other three teams are unranked. These losses have somewhat damaged North Carolina’s reputation.
Fans are starting to doubt whether North Carolina is in contention to compete and go to the NCAA tournament. Another area of concern has been Hubert Davis’ capability as head coach. However, Caleb Wilson has come out and shown support for him.
“It’s more like about confidence now. Our coach can say whatever he wants. I hate the people who try to blame Hubert for our lapses. But our coach is teaching us the right thing. It’s all about our effort and to play us as hard as we can. Coach can only do so much. We are the ones that know the plans. As long as we pick up, and we gotta put a lot of effort like we guys did today,” Wilson said.

“I love Caleb but a lot of us watched Roy who would pull everyone who lacked said effort, no matter who you were and put them on the bench. He’d focus solely on them, get his point across while not paying attention to the court and then have them marinate in it while he’s coaching the guys on the court. From the outside looking in, accountability looks different these days,” one fan divulged.
“Hubert is true class and Caleb is clearly also true class. Very rare these days. Enjoy it while it lasts,” another fan claimed.
“Dean Smith first five years at UNC 86-48. Roy Williams first five years at UNC 137-37. Hubert Davis first five years at UNC 115-49. Leave Hubert alone, cheer them on, stop hating,” another explained.
“Darn, I guess you’ll have to keep Davis after all. You beat Notre Dame, not much of an accomplishment, you still give up open threes, and Notre Dame is down two starters. Watch UNC fans say we’re back,” one fan commented.
