Former NBA player Matt Barnes has revealed what he told his fellow former player, Carlos Boozer, about the latter’s sons’ recent major setback.
On Sunday, March 29, Boozer’s sons, Cameron and Cayden, and the rest of coach Jon Scheyer’s Duke Blue Devils lost 72-73 to coach Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies in the Elite Eight of this year’s NCAA tournament on neutral grounds.
On Wednesday, Barnes shared how he consoled Carlos, whose sons are going through tough times right now, particularly Cayden. This is because Cayden’s turnover late in the game led to Huskies guard Braylon Mullins’ game-winning three-pointer to defeat Duke by a mere point. Barnes advised Carlos Boozer to tell Cayden to get off social media first.
“You know, I just want to tell Cayden to hold his head up, man. And I reached out to Booze just to tell him, man, he’s got to help protect Cayden’s mental because I know how nasty social media is, and the way they’re gonna try to dog him. And he had a really good game, if I’m not mistaken. He missed one shot. I think he had 13 or 15 points. Five assists, played well. And it’s just an unfortunate situation,” Barnes said on the “All The Smoke” podcast.
“And with social media, it’s gonna be a bunch of f*ck*ng d*ckh**d’s that are gonna try to tear his, you know, mental down and his character down,” he continued.
The Blue Devils are out of the national tournament, while the Huskies have advanced to the NCAA Final Four. It was a gut-wrenching defeat, considering Cayden Boozer‘s late-game blunder and the fact that it may be the last time he suits up with his brother, Cameron, who is likely to declare for the 2026 NBA Draft.
Matt Barnes Offers His Own Message To Cameron And Cayden Boozer
In the same video, Matt Barnes offered his own message to Cameron and Cayden Boozer apart from the one he told their father, Carlos.
Barnes first sent a message to Cameron Boozer, who is likely a one-and-done star, as he vies for the 2026 NBA Draft. For Cayden, Barnes wants him to use the setback as energy to return.
“ But I just wanna tell you, bro, both of you twins, I mean. Cam, hell of a college career, bro. I know you’re gonna be a top-three pick in the NBA. Good luck. And then, Cayden, man, use this situation as fire and fuel when you get back out there to drive you and block all the other b*llsh*t out ’cause the b*llsh*t doesn’t matter. You did a great job. You’re gonna have a, you know, wonderful career at Duke and continue to push forward,” Barnes shared. (0:26)
