The Duke Blue Devils had one of the more dominant seasons this year, but it all came crashing down during the Elite Eight. They were the No. 1-ranked team coming into the tournament, but they have failed to make the Final Four this year after a turnover from Cayden Boozer, who admitted to his mistake and blamed himself for it.
This soon had fans poking fun at the freshman forward for such a rookie mistake, from his twin brother Cameron Boozer being angry at him to fans just being elated that Duke has been eliminated earlier than expected.
Duke led by as much as 19 points during the game before UConn started clawing back and stunning the Blue Devils with a Braylon Mullins buzzer beater in what should be the most dramatic ending in the tournament so far. While UConn moves on to the Final Four to face Illinois, Duke will be going home empty-handed again this year.
What Cayden Boozer Said After Costly Mistake Led To Duke Elimination
After the loss, a bummed-out Cayden Boozer was taking questions from reporters and admitted to one thing: that this was all his fault.
“I ruined our team’s season,” he told reporters.
While his brother, Cameron, is largely seen as a one-and-done and heading to the NBA as one of the favorites to become the No. 1 overall pick for this year’s NBA draft, Cayden’s future is a little more cloudy, as the point guard is noted to need more improvement in his game.
Still, as a freshman, Cayden Boozer has shown a lot of improvement on his part and may be staying at Durham a little while longer and do what his dad, Carlos Boozer, did and win a national title for Duke.
