Kansas State Head Coach Casey Alexander Gets 100% Clear on Decision To Join the Wildcats

Casey Alexander is going into his first season as a Power Five coach in 2026, having taken over the Kansas State Wildcats in mid-March. He comes from six seasons in charge of Belmont, all of them winning years for the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) program. Alexander even became the MVC Coach of the Year in 2026.

The 26-6 record allowed the program to become regular-season champions of the Missouri Valley Conference, and this, in turn, made Casey Alexander a candidate for a power conference program. In an interview this Wednesday, Alexander said that once K-State came calling, it was impossible to say no:

“Kansas State was an easy choice for me. Such a passionate fan base, such a great league to play in, and a program that has a ton of history… that part was a no-brainer,” said Alexander on ‘The Field 68.’

He also admitted that, towards the end of the season, it did become difficult for him as the Wildcats’ job had already become available and a possibility for him, but he also didn’t want to be disloyal to Belmont. However, he states that it was all to do with the process and having to do things in a way that wouldn’t antagonize the fandom. Kansas State was always the place he wanted to end up, once the opportunity arose.

Casey Alexander on what the journey at Kansas State has been so far

Casey Alexander has been going on a sort of media tour as of late. In an interview on May 14th on the 3Maw podcast with John Kurtz, Alexander spoke about how much he’s enjoying the process at Kansas so far:

“It’s been one wild ride,” Alexander said. “I think we are slowing down quite a bit, but it’s really been awesome. I have enjoyed every part of it, even though there have been some long days and nights. It has been everything you would want it to be. It was a great reception; a lot of work to be done early. That is what we will continue to do, starting with high school recruiting this weekend.”

It’s been a laborious ride, with Alexander having to build up the program almost from scratch. Only one player, Andrej Kostic, is returning for the 2026-27 season, in what is set to be almost an entirely new roster. K-State is coming from a disappointing 12-20 season in 2025-26.
