John Calipari Reveals Arkansas’ Plan for Likely Roster Additions After Meleek Thomas’ Draft Decision

The Arkansas Razorbacks roster appears to have a big hole in it after Meleek Thomas’ decision to remain in the NBA draft as he prepares for a new beginning in his career.

While head coach John Calipari has welcomed the decision and wished his departing star the very best, he must have been concerned about replacing the player at a time when competitors are actively going out and spending big money to attract the best talent.

Kentucky Wildcats secured the commitment of Milan Momcilovic for reportedly over $6 Million, while Tounde Yessoufou withdrew from the NBA draft to sign for the St. John’s Red Storm in another big money deal.

With all eyes on Calipari, the veteran coach spoke about his own plans for the team, and how many additions he plans to make before the new season begins.

“I was in Mexico recruiting, and we’re going to add one, maybe two more guys to the roster,” Calipari remarked.

“But I don’t just add to add. So if the team doesn’t look like some somebody thinks it should look, that’s okay, because I’ve had teams like that. What you want to do is make sure you got good people with good hearts, who can be good teammates and have a special thing that they do that’s different than anybody else on the team.”

    Who is John Calipari Targeting?

John Calipari’s primary focus in Mexico appears to be Davion Thompson, who is a four-star 2027 recruit that plays primarily as a guard, and is set to announce his college commitment on June 10. Calipari likely sees him as a long term replacement for Meleek Thomas though other players are also on the agenda.

Florida transfer Micah Handlogten is linked with the Arkansas Razorbacks despite his need for a waiver from the NCAA with Malique Ewin also in a similar spot as things stand.
