Is Brandon Dwyer Going to the NBA? Here’s What We Know So Far

Brandon Dwyer’s chances of going to the NBA are slim to nonexistent. Although the Florida Gulf Coast University walk-on submitted paperwork to declare for the 2026 NBA draft, it appears to be more of a PR move to prop up his social media career.

Dwyer has spent the better part of his collegiate career in a challenge of his own, which he named “Road to 1 point”. He wanted to score at least one point in college basketball and asked his followers to accompany him on his journey. He spent a season at La Salle and three at Florida Gulf Coast University, managing to finally score six points in the 2025-26 season.

The points came during an early November game against New College of Florida, where he played four minutes. He played another game in December and one game during the ASUN Championship quarterfinal.

The idea that he could move to the NBA stems from Dwyer creating a new challenge for himself, “Road to 1 NBA Point”, which he announced on Wednesday through social media. With this initiative, he announced his intent to declare for the NBA draft and score one point on the professional circuit.

Brandon Dwyer on scoring a couple triples back in November

Brandon Dwyer’s dream came true on Nov. 3, 2025, when Florida Gulf Coast University faced New College of Florida. He was given the opportunity to step onto the court for four minutes, and he delivered a couple of 3-pointers.

“It definitely felt pretty cool, I would say I wouldn’t know how to describe that feeling. I don’t even know what celebration I did, I kind of blacked out,” he was quoted as saying by gulf coast news.

“It’s been a long journey, it’s my fifth year in college, and my teammates call me Unc. It’s nice to have that weight off my shoulders and have my first points completed.”

In the end, Florida Gulf Coast won 96-60. Coach Patrick Chambers described the moment as memorable.
