Is Brandon Dwyer Going to the NBA? Here’s What We Know So Far

There’s no realistic prospect of Brandon Dwyer going to the NBA. Although viral Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) walk-on officially submitted paperwork to declare for the 2026 NBA Draft, the move is more of a PR stunt to prop up his social media career.

Dwyer has spent the better part of his collegiate career in a challenge of his own, which he named “Road to 1 point”. The idea is that the walk-on wanted to score at least one point in college basketball, and he asked his followers to accompany him on his journey. He spent a season at La Salle and three at Florida Gulf Coast University, managing to finally score six points in the 2025-26 season.

The points came during a early-November game against New College of Florida, where he played four minutes. He played another game in December and one game during the ASUN Championship quarterfinal.

For all his social media success, it’s highly unlikely, not to say bordering on impossible, that an NBA franchise will spend a draft pick on what’s basically a PR stunt.

The idea that he could move to the NBA stems from Brandon Dwyer himself creating a new challenge for himself, “Road to 1 NBA Point”, which he announced on Wednesday through social media. With this initiative, he announced his intent to declare for the NBA Draft and get to score one point with the professionals.

Brandon Dwyer on scoring a couple triples back in November

Brandon Dwyer’s dream came through on November 3rd, 2025. That day, Florida Gulf Coast University was having an easy game against New College of Florida, and he was given the opportunity to step into the court for four minutes. He delivered with a couple tripes.

In the aftermath, the player was ectastic, describing his feelings as follows:

“It definitely felt pretty cool, I would say I wouldn’t know how to describe that feeling. I don’t even know what celebration I did, I kind of blacked out.”

“It’s been a long journey, it’s my fifth year in college, and my teammates call me Unc. It’s nice to have that weight off my shoulders and have my first points completed.”

In the end, Florida Gulf Coast won 96-60. At the time coach Patrick Chambers praised him for being able to score six points with the home crowd, and described the moment as a memorable one.
