AJ Dybantsa Makes Feelings Clear on Possibly Playing With Anthony Davis and Trae Young

AJ Dybantsa was the highest scorer in the country last year. In his one-and-done season with BYU, Dybantsa was considered the best player in college basketball. He was touted to be the No. 1 pick for a long time. Now, all the NBA mock drafts back him to go No. 1.

Dybantsa has often shared the ambition he holds for that achievement. He deems himself worthy and believes that he will live up to his reputation. He averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Despite leading college basketball in scoring average, BYU had a disappointing season.

Fortunately for AJ Dybantsa, that hasn’t hurt his draft stock. After winning the NBA lottery, the Washington Wizards are almost guaranteed to pick Dybantsa as the first pick. If that happens, Dybantsa will play with NBA All-Stars Anthony Davis and Trae Young. The BYU star talked about possibly teaming up with them.

AJ Dybantsa was asked how much belief he has that he will end up being the No. 1 pick in the draft. He answered that he has maximum possible belief of that. He said confidently, “100%, yes. Two All-Stars right there. Learning from two All-Stars my rookie year would be super exciting.”

AJ Dybantsa playfully challenges Trae Young for jersey number

In his appearance on Gilbert Arenas’ show, Dybantsa talked about possibly teaming up with AD and Trae. While he is excited to be among two superstars, there might be one thing that they would argue about.

Dybantsa has had jersey No. 3 ever since he started his basketball career. But the Wizards apparently already have a No. 3 in Trae Young. So, when asked about his arrival in Washington, AJ playfully answered, “If they draft me, I do need 3.”

After talking about jersey number, he added on how he can help the Wizards in multiple ways. He said that he is versatile and can even guard 1 through 4. However, he revealed that in an interview, an NBA team demanded that he might also would need to adapt and switch 1 through 5.

“You’re gonna have to guard Wemby. You’re gonna have to guard Jokic on a play. So, I’mma say I can guard 1 through 5. Playing 1 through 5, it’s tough,” he added (0:35).
