After spending his freshman season with the Kentucky Wildcats, Jasper Johnson is expected to enter the transfer portal. In 35 games, he averaged 4.9 points, 1.6 assists and 1.1 rebounds in 12 minutes per game.
The five-star recruit from Kentucky’s 2025 class will likely join fellow teammate Jaland Lowe in the portal as he seeks a fresh start.
Johnson never got going for Kentucky, and he said after the team’s loss to Iowa State that he would need to work on his game in the offseason.
“I’m very confident, I just know I got to get better,” he said. “I know I got to get stronger in the offseason, tighten up my game and just go from there — keep growing as a basketball player.”
Let’s check out five teams expected to land him via portal.
Top 5 Potential Landing Spots for Kentucky Guard Jasper Johnson
1. Louisville Cardinals
If Jasper Johnson wants to remain closer to home, then Louisville could be the perfect destination. Johnson will get everything he wanted with the Wildcats in Louisville, along with immediate minutes and a bigger role.
The Cardinals are the best overall fit for the soon-to-be sophomore.
2. Cincinnati Bearcats
Johnson could also go to Cincinnati, which is known for strong guard development. The Bearcats will need scoring guards next season, and if Johnson can get enough minutes to show his potential, he could be the answer to the problem.
Moreover, Cincinnati plays in the Big 12, which is similar to the SEC in terms of physicality.
3. Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas was among the schools strongly involved in his recruiting out of high school, along with Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, and Louisville. So, they are already aware of Johnson’s potential. Arkansas’ fast-paced system could help Johnson thrive, unlike Kentucky’s.
4. Indiana Hoosiers
If Jasper Johnson didn’t like the SEC and wants to join another well-established conference, then he could opt for the Big Ten’s Indiana Hoosiers. Depending on the school’s requirements, Johnson can be asked to run point or just settle for maximizing his role as a shooting guard.
Moreover, Indiana could offer him strong NIL exposure.
5. Georgetown Hoyas
This is another team that can give Jasper Johnson a lot of minutes. Johnson didn’t play a lot for Kentucky, but he’s bound to get more time on the court for Georgetown, thanks to his five-star rating.
The rebuilding school could give him the chance to be the primary ball-handler and scorer with much less pressure.
