Michigan State Spartans Carson Cooper issued a farewell message to the fans of the program on Thursday. Cooper joined the Spartans in 2022-23 as a freshman. Given he didn’t redshirt early in his college career, he has exhausted his eligibility after the 2025-26 college basketball season.
Cooper has no other option left but to declare for the NBA draft even though he didn’t state it clearly in his farewell message. The only clear thing he said that he’s “leaving as a Spartan.”
Cooper, who is a 6’11” center known for rebounding, efficiency, and defense, is viewed as a fringe NBA prospect. He’s more likely to go undrafted with an opportunity in the NBA G-League. In the 2025-26 season, Cooper averaged 11.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He played a key role in Michigan’s Sweet 16 run.
Carson Cooper’s Farewell Message To Spartan Nation
In his farewell message, Carson Cooper recalled humble beginnings, joining the Spartans after attending Northwest High School, Ypsi Prep, and IMG Academy. He calls it his “best decision” to join Tom Izzo’s program and he will always remember the memories formed here.
Cooper can’t forget every time Izzone Campout cheers his name in the arena:
“From MSU Madness to crowd-surfing at the Izzone Campout, to hearing “Cooooopp” when my name was introduced and to the energy our fans brought to the Breslin Center every game, there is no better place to play college basketball.”
Cooper also showed his gratitude towards the fanbase and alumini at Breslin Center:
“To the IZZONE, the best student section in America, I can’t thank you enough. Every game, you brought the energy that made the Breslin Center the toughest place to play. I’m going to miss your energy and high-fiving you after every game.
“To our fans and alumni, you showed me how important this University is to the 500,000 living alumni. Every game, home or away, you showed up and supported us. A lot of schools don’t have that type of support. We do.”
Cooper shared that it was his “honor” to wear the Spartan jersey for the last four years.
