NBA legend Gilbert Arenas had a hilarious reaction to the recent viral moment between UConn Huskies coach Dan Hurley and a referee.
On Sunday, March 29, Hurley and his Huskies defeated Coach Jon Scheyer’s Duke Blue Devils 73-72 in the Elite Eight of the East Region of this year’s national tournament on neutral grounds, the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
Coach Hurley had a viral moment, as he jokingly headbutted a referee while celebrating the win. In a clip posted by the “Gil’s Arena” podcast’s Instagram, Arenas talked about the moment, deeming it a candid reaction by Hurley.
“ I don’t know if he got black in him, but whatever was in them came out right there in that moment… That celebration, like what you would do with your friends, got the whole sleeve down, ‘What’s up? We did it.’ It looks like they have a great relationship,” Arenas said.
“Dan Hurley got that 🐕 in him 😂 #nba #danhurley #uconn #headbutt,” @gilsarena0 on Instagram captioned with emojis.
The reason why Hurley was so fired up was that his sharpshooter, Braylon Mullins, nailed the game-winning three-pointer over the Blue Devils, with just 0.3 seconds to go. This came after the Connecticut-based program clawed its way back from a 19-point deficit to win 73-72 over Duke. The Huskies’ 2026 NCAA Tournament run continues into the Final Four, where they will face the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Gilbert Arenas Shares His Thoughts On The Duke Blue Devils’ POV Of Their 2026 Elite Eight Loss
In another video uploaded by Gilbert Arenas’ podcast on Instagram from the aforementioned episode, Arenas and his co-hosts discussed what went wrong for the Duke Blue Devils in their heartbreaking loss to the UConn Huskies.
Arenas started the discussion by claiming that their doubt stemmed from missing a few shots, whereas UConn used this to take advantage of the game.
“ Once you miss a few shots, doubt starts kicking in. The other team starts seeing weakness, and you know, you have situations like this where everything that went wrong, went wrong at the right time,” Arenas shared.
“Everything that could’ve gone wrong went wrong for Duke 😢#duke #marchmadness #uconn,” @gilsarena0 on Instagram wrote with an emoji.
