Duke hit gold when it recruited Kon Knueppel a couple of years ago, with the 20-year-old proving invaluable for the Blue Devils as they rebuilt their legacy under coach Jon Scheyer. A few years on, they appear to be doing the same with Kon’s younger brother, Kager Knueppel.
And it appears the program has taken concrete steps to ensure that young Kager comes to Duke before thinking about any other college. Insider Adam Zagoria reports that Blue Devils associate head coach Chris Carrawell watched the top 2027 recruit on Friday with the intention of scouting the teenager.
Despite the strong interest from Duke, it appears that Kager is keeping his options open. Another insider, Joe Tipton, reported for Rivals that the youngster still has Michigan and Purdue on the table.
“It’s not just 100% Duke. It’s my own path, so I’ll see other schools and have interest in them,” Kager Knueppel said.
At 6-foot-10, Kager already has a height advantage over his elder brother, and he hasn’t been afraid to make that clear to potential programs, explaining the same publicly.
“I’m different (than Kon Knueppel) because I’m longer and taller,” Kager said, “so that’s obviously helped me a little bit, but then I can also get the blocks on defense, and I can shoot as well, so that’s good.”
Kon Knueppel Thrived at Duke Before Moving Up to the NBA
If Kager Knueppel does end up committing to Duke, he will follow in the footsteps of his brother Kon, who played a major role in the 2024-25 season for Jon Scheyer, before declaring for the NBA draft.
At the 2025 NBA draft, Kon Knueppel was picked fourth overall, drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, where he had a stunning first season, recording 18.5 points per game and setting the NBA single-season rookie record for made 3-pointers with 273. His former Duke teammate, Cooper Flagg, beat him to the Rookie of the Year award, while Knueppel finished second.
