Darius Acuff Jr joins the long list of talented players that have been drafted in the NBA from under John Calipari’s wings. Coach Calipari has been renowned throughout his career for producing great NBA stars.
On the Run It Back podcast on 25th June, recently drafted Darius Acuff Jr joined former head coach John Calipari. Arkansas HC praised Acuff and delved into what he will add to the Kings and the NBA. While hyping up Darius, Calipari highlighted his players’ success over the years.
“They all made it. And in the league over the years, I think our kids have made over $6 billion dollar. Six billion!” Calipari said (55:25).
“I’ve had Look, I’ve had so many good players, so many lottery picks, Marcus. Most of them say I held them back. Bam had 83 in a pro game. He didn’t score 83 for me. Devin Booker had 72 in a pro game at the with against the Celtics. And every player is different. They’re all as a big guy. Demarcus was as much a four as he was a five. But when he was playing for me, he better rebound and he better block shots,” He said (54:19).
Then I had to get Darius because he could have scored another 10 a game. But he knows I was on him. You’re passing the ball. You got to get these people involved. He got Meleek Thomas. I sat them two down and I said, Darius, you got to get him going. He’ll find spots. Get him the ball and then all of a sudden he takes off. So he is different. Maxi was different. John Wall was different. Eric Bledo was different. Derek Rose was different. They all had their own way,” Calipari added.
John Calipari trolls Boogie Cousins while praising Darius Acuff Jr
All throughout the podcast, Calipari talked up Darius Acuff Jr. While he was at it, he also playfully trolled his former player, Bougie Cousins.
“This kid’s on a path because he loves the game and he loves the process. Do you know he didn’t have a car? He did not have a car. He never left his room. He didn’t go home for Christmas because he wanted to work out. That was not Marcus Cousins. That was not Demarcus Cousins. No,” Calipari said and laughed (55:57).
Bougie Cousins was confused and replied that he didn’t have a car, and he didn’t go home for Christmas either when he was a player under Calipari at Kentucky.
