Former Louisville Cardinals football star DeVante Parker entered into a heated exchange with NBA prospect Mikel Brown Jr.’s father, Christopher Brown Sr. The intense conversation happened in the comments section of the 35KY Sports post, where the Louisville Cardinals star can be seen preparing for the NBA draft.
Brown Jr. is coming off an injury-riddled season. The projected NBA lottery pick suffered a strained back for most of the season, missing the entire postseason and only appearing in 21 games.
Brown’s late-season absence, followed by this pictorials about him preparing for the NBA draft, has Parker questioning the legitimacy of his health. He believes Brown Jr. is faking about his health as he commented:
“He ain’t got time to rest. He was faking.”
In response, Brown’s father, Christopher, stepped in and threw dirt on Parker’s profile.
“Your focus should be trying to get back in the league young man. Slick is hate is a feminine trait,” Christopher said.
The response escalated the situation. Parker doubled down, replying:
“Heard what I said.”
The interaction comes at a time when Brown’s late-season absence could hurt his draft stock in June. Earlier, when he declared for the draft, Brown said:
“Obviously, it’s just been a dream of mine to be able to be in this position. The little kid in me would freaking scream just to know that I have an opportunity to play at the highest level, which has been a dream of mine since I started picking up a basketball. So yeah, I’ll be taking that next step.”
Mikel Brown Jr. Addresses Late Season Absences
Mikel Brown Jr. is a highly touted NBA prospect who can be a lottery pick come the draft in June. But after the 6-foot-5 guard missed the whole March Madness, questions about his health, pain tolerance and medical issues have been raised by many.
In order to clarify what really happened to his back, because of which he had to miss the most important part of the season, Brown said:
“[My back] really was messed up, but I just kept trying to play through it. And then eventually it just led me to the decision that I wasn’t going to play in both tournaments — the ACC tournament and the NCAA tournament — just because I’m not trained to go half speed at all. I always want to go full speed in everything I do, whether that’s me working out or playing a game. I just wasn’t able to do that at the time. So, I just felt like it was best for me to just sit out.”
Brown Jr. averaged 18.2 points and 4.7 assists on 41.0 percent shooting this past season. His 45-point winning effort against NC State showed the immense potential he carries. While he may not have enough games under his belt, several mock drafts are still predicting that he will get picked inside the top 10.
