MLB analyst Dan Clark found Jazz Chisholm Jr. to be “disrespectful” during the postgame interview on Sunday. The New York Yankees star came through against the Los Angeles Dodgers as he hit a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning. The Yankees won the low-scoring game 2-1.
Despite coming through for the Yankees with timely home runs, Chisholm has struggled to be consistent at the plate. In 94 games so far, the Yankees slugger has batted .224/.302/.403 with 14 home runs.
During the postgame interview, Chisholm was asked how he would describe his season, to which the Yankees star replied:
“Sucked. I sucked all season. The numbers speak for themselves.”
The manner in which Chisholm spoke felt highly disrespectful to Clark. Actually, Chisholm was tightening the screw of his earring and was not looking at the reporter. Clark noted his observation on X:
“Two things… 1) Finally some humility from Jazz Chisholm Jr. The bravado is dropped and he owns his poor performances. 2) When you’re talking to someone, have the decency to look at them. This is really disrespectful.”
Earlier in Sunday’s game against the Dodgers, there was a moment when the Yankees had the bases loaded with no outs. However, Chisholm’s team failed to capitalize on that opportunity. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said:
“That’s a bomb right there. Obviously we have that inning where we’re bases loaded, up one, no outs, and a chance to really take the game there in a lot of ways. Aren’t able to come up with a big hit. It turned into a real big hit. Where he went there as a lefty, that’s a pretty good shot. Big at-bat. Every win is precious.”
Jazz Chisholm Jr. Reveals Reason Behind Yankees’ Poor Stretch
The Yankees were 46-28 at one point this season. However, since then, they have only improved to 55-44, while losing their top spot in the AL East to the Tampa Bay Rays. During this time, the Yankees have been missing captain Aaron Judge’s presence and have committed plenty of mistakes to only blame themselves for this stretch.
Chisholm also acknowledged how the team is as competitive as anyone else in the league, but their shortcomings are a result of them only.
“I feel like we match up against any team in the league,” Chisholm said. “I feel like we beat ourselves a lot. I feel like that stuff, we’re going to clean up as it goes.”
As Aaron Boone said, every win is precious for them at this point. They are just 1.5 games behind the Rays, and if the wave of optimism continues, the Yankees will find themselves back at the top in no time.
