Darius Acuff Jr. is slowly making the case to get picked higher in the 2026 NBA Draft. The Arkansas Razorbacks star once again showed up big time in the NCAA Tournament second round win against High Point on Saturday.
Acuff Jr. had 36 points and six assists in the 94-88 win. The guard also broke the school record for points, set by Todd Day in the 1990-91 season. Moreover, he becomes only the 27th Division I player to have at least 700 points, 200 assists and 100 rebounds in a season.
With another sensational performance in the NCAA Tournament, the SEC Player of the Year is building a strong case to get picked inside top five picks in the NBA draft. During the recent segment of Nightcap, Shannon Sharpe made a massive prediction about Acuff Jr. concerning his draft stock.
“I think he’s definitely increasing his draft stock,” Sharpe said. “It’s going up, me personally looking at him, I didn’t think he was going to get out of the top five. It’s going to be even harder now for him to get out of the top five considering how well he’s playing because, like you said, Joe, he has an NBA body. Yeah, big. He’s physical, he’s strong, he can play at the rim. He’s got the mid-range, he can shoot the three ball. Yeah, can’t quit. Yeah, man, everything that you want in a guard.”
Acuff Jr. previously scored 24 points in the win against Hawai’i. It remains to be seen how well his NBA draft stock turns out to be after the completion of this season.
Arkansas HC John Calipari Raves About Darius Acuff Jr.
Darius Acuff Jr. earned major props from his head coach, John Calipari, who is making his 17th trip to the Sweet 16 with the win on Saturday night. While talking about the game against High Point, Calipari gave credit to the guard.
“I think it’s that kid Darius Acuff,” Calipari said on the TNT broadcast. “We put it in his hands and I trust him, and the team trusts him… What you saw is what he be’s.”
Arkansas’ Sweet 16 opponent is yet to be determined.
