Mick Cronin and Dan Hurley. Two top, world-class coaches. Two serial winners. And another similarity between the two is their on-court intensity and sideline antics. Anyone who knows anything about college basketball remotely knows the name Dan Hurley. And anyone who knows Dan Hurley certainly has an opinion on the UConn head coach’s behavior during games.
Hurley is famous for shouting, screaming, getting frustrated, and often showing the same on the sidelines. He is often criticised for his antics, and he answers that he is passionate about the game. However, some people love that intensity, and there are some who don’t.
Mick Cronin of the UCLA Bruins is also one such head coach who wears his heart on his sleeve. He doesn’t shy away from altercations with the referees, expressing his discontent with a foul call or even his players, just like Dan Hurley. Just like UConn’s boss, Mick Cronin is also criticised for that. Recently, he answered the critics who questioned him and Dan Hurley’s courtside antics.
“Ridiculous. Everybody needs to get a life, bro. Get a life, man. Come on, man. Get a life, bro. You want to win big, but you think Coach Hurley’s not supposed to be intense, but you want to win. Come on, man. We’re not coaching little league, buddy. Everybody doesn’t get an at bat, you know. Come on, man. Paying us a lot of money to win games, you know,” Cronin defended himself and coach Hurley.
Fans React to Mick Cronin Defending Himself and Dan Hurley
Fans were not impressed with Cronin’s reply for the most part.
“Both coaches are cringeworthy , you can be intense without being a douchebag and they are both douchebags…facts,” another claimed.
“What a fraud, he & Hurley love being the center of attention,” another stated.
“You can be intense and not a jerk like this clown. Was this way even at Cincy crying around,” another voiced his opinion.
“Mick is right. Everyone has different styles and thats what works for them,” one fan agreed.
“How has he ever gotten a job? He has to give the worst interviews of all time,” another commented.
