There were many outstanding players last season. AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer were three of the top players in the country and are also touted to go top three in the upcoming NBA draft. Apart from them, Darius Acuff Jr was just another player who was absolutely amazing throughout the season.
Arkansas star was pretty underrated for the most of the year. However, he got his flowers in the NCAA tournament. John Calipari coached yet another terrific guard. He averaged 23.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 36 games last season. He led SEC in both scoring and assists. He also had the all-time freshman record in the first three March Madness games.
After his amazing freshman season, he solidified his place to end up in the first 10 draft picks. Many people think that he deserves the top 5. Some might even argue that him ending up as the top 3 pick would be absolutely fair. However, there is some criticism about his defense. And his NBA draft combine measurements, mainly his 6’7 wingspan, sparked more concerns. However, Acuff has the perfect reply.
“To be honest with you, I don’t really care. I think I kinda knew what it [vertical] was already. People are going to always have opinions, no matter what. I know I want to play defense, so I don’t really wanna respond to it. I do feel like I need to pick up my defense. So I’m gonna do it,” Darius Acuff Jr said.
Fans react to Darius Acuff’s bold comment
Fans were not in favor of the criticism and backed Darius Acuff Jr.
“People act like he wasn’t asked to play 40 minutes a game and score almost 30 every game. He had to take the other end of the floor off every game,” one fan defended Acuff.
“Yeah, this dude gonna be a dawg. Doesn’t give a shit what others think and keeps grinding. This is how all-stars approach it,” another fan stated.
“He doesn’t get distracted by any of the noise and talk around him. He just continues to work hard and plays to win. He couldn’t foul at Arkansas when they were playing with 6&7 guys so I have zero doubt he can improve his defense. Anyone who passes on him will regret it,” one fan claimed.
“Darius is a real one! Don’t sleep on him!” Another fan commented.
“I like this guy already,” one fan said.
“Yea we self aware we going to the top,” another replied.
