During the transfer portal, Flory Bidunga was one of the most sought-after big men. However, shortly after he chose Louisville, he declared for the NBA draft and is now in Chicago to participate in the NBA Draft Combine. During one of the many press conferences, Bidunga addressed his future with the Cardinals as he explores his NBA viability.
“I mean, not really because of the day-to-day, and obviously because I’m here, and honored to be here,” he said.
Flory Bidunga added that it is his dream to be in the NBA, so he will be sticking around the draft if his seed is high. This means that while he has not yet closed the chapter on going to Louisville, the former Kansas power forward will really be entering the draft if interest in him is high enough.
So far, he has now been measured and it has been a bit disappointing, as the power forward measured in at 6’7 ¾” barefoot, 228.6 pounds with a 7’3 ¼” wingspan and 8’10 ½” standing reach, which makes him a bit undersized for his position. This could lead to some teams passing on him as he would not be tall enough, especially in the NBA where giants are dominating.
Kansas listed him as 6’10 last season, and his new measurement just means that he is shorter than many had expected.
Louisville’s Pat Kelcey Already Ready for Flory Bidunga’s Limitations
Flory Bidunga can still go back to college and withdraw his entry into the NBA draft after the Combine if there is not much interest in him. The power forward, who often played at center, thrived against smaller teams but was known to struggle against teams with a true big man, and now his height has basically revealed his weakness.
Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey is already reportedly building a roster around Bidunga and he will be working to contain that weakness, He has so far brought in 6-foot-10 Alvaro Folgeuiras and 6-foot-10 five-star freshman Obinna Ekezie Jr. to maybe get that center spot so Bidunga could play a smaller position, such as small forward or power forward. Bidunga flourished if there was another big around, so Kelsey has notedly followed that trend.
