Arkansas’ Trevon Brazile Stands Up for Darius Acuff Jr. Amid Criticism of His Defense Ahead of the Draft

Darius Acuff Jr. helped Arkansas become a serious contender last season. After his freshman year, he has decided to enter the NBA draft. However, many are not convinced that Acuff can cut it in the NBA, citing his defensive struggles.

However, during the NBA Draft Combine, his Arkansas Razorbacks teammate, Trevon Brazile, stepped up to defend the freshman point guard. He said Acuff knows how to defend and that their defensive coach worked with him to improve his skill set throughout the season.
“He can defend, and he’s a guy that’s willing to get better every day. He’s a guy that’s always asking questions. Chin Coleman our defensive coach. He was always in his ear…He’s gonna get better as it goes…” Brazile said.

While he is phenomenal on the offensive end, Darius Acuff Jr.’s defense has left a lot to be desired. While he averaged 23.5 points, 6.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game for the Razorbacks, he recorded just 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks per game as a freshman. Still, he has many opportunities to prove his doubters wrong during the drills and scrimmages as the NBA Draft Combine continues.

Report: Darius Acuff Jr. Has Already Met With the Brooklyn Nets

Meanwhile, despite the accusations that he cannot defend the ball well, one team has reportedly shown interest in Darius Acuff Jr: the Brooklyn Nets.

Acuff talked about what he could bring to the team.

“Definitely a superstar point guard,” he said. “I’ll bring a lot of excitement to any city I go to. … A lot of accolades. Being on a winning team. It starts with the point guard.”

The Nets really need a point guard next season, and betting on a rookie like Acuff to turn things around for them would be a bold move.
