“I’ve Given Up On That”: Dan Hurley Makes Feelings Very Clear On UConn Fans After Georgetown Win

Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies have been nearly unstoppable this season. They have won 24 of the 26 games, they are 14-1 in the conference, and are at the top of the Big East chart with a comfortable margin.

As far as their game and the season are concerned, everything is going great. But the silence inside the arena during their games has started to become a problem. Everyone is now noticing that there’s very little support for a powerful team inside the arena.

The Huskies played the Georgetown Hoyas yesterday. Continuing their momentum, they beat the visitors 79-75 at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion. Once again, the fans didn’t show up to support their team, and the seats remained empty.

At the post-game press conference, Dan Hurley was asked if he sees it as a concern. Hurley has always tried to involve the fans during games, especially in big moments. Now, he no longer has the same enthusiasm because of the low turnout.

“I’ve kind of given up on that a little bit,” he said. “I’ve done that, I don’t get the same response. When we took the program from where it was…we played in front of paltry crowds.”

Hurley said that when he first took over the UConn program, they weren’t a very good team. They had a KenPom rating of 179, and there was little to no interest from fans even back then. But a lot has changed since then.

Since joining the program in 2018, Hurley has won two NCAA Division I tournaments in 2023 and 2024. He has turned the UConn Huskies into one of the best programs in the country today. And once again, he’s not getting the crowd support that he should.

Dan Hurley Expects More from the Fans

UConn is unlike any other college basketball program. They are the basketball capital of the world. A title like that carries a lot of weight, and Hurley expects the UConn fans to understand that and stand by their team.

He stated that the fans of UConn should never get called out for their lack of support and empty seats inside the arena.

“We’re the basketball capital of the world. There shouldn’t be criticisms of our crowds at games,” Hurley said. “When I saw Ed during the handshake line, Ed asked me what was up with the crowd. And it was just a lot of empty seats. I think the section behind our basket was empty.”

Hurley expects the UConn games to be a “madhouse.” He spoke passionately about the value of fans during games and how encouraging they make the entire atmosphere for the fans. Hopefully, the fans watched his clip.
