Cooper Flagg recently went back to Duke and received a warm welcome from fans. Flagg was the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. In his rookie year, he has managed to live up to the expectations and hype surrounding his name.
The Duke Blue Devils played the Syracuse Orange at home. They registered a blowout 101-64 win over Syracuse and maintained their unbeaten winning streak at home, extending it to 13-0.
The Blue Devils are also at the top of the Atlantic Coast charts with 24 wins and two losses. Flagg attended the game with two of his former teammates, Khaman Maluach and Kon Knueppel.
They received loud cheers and applause from fans inside the arena. Later, a fan of Cooper Flagg posted the clip on Instagram, which made some Duke fans emotional as they saw their former players back at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
“why does this make me cry, like damn, they are just boys me at the end of the day, i LOVE them!!” a fan wrote.
“The trio is back together!” a fan wrote.
“Cam and Coop in Dallas,” a fan wrote.
“My guy cooper,” a fan wrote.
“Loved that team,” a fan wrote.
The Blue Devils dominated the game from the beginning. They took a 40-24 lead at halftime and came back to drop 61 points in the second half to end the game at 101-64. Flagg and his teammates seemed to enjoy the beatdown Duke handed to Syracuse.
Cooper Flagg is the Frontrunner for Rookie of the Year
Flagg was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks only months after the Luka Doncic trade. Since that trade, the Mavs have lost control of the Western Conference as they have been marred by injuries and have lost their best player.
The former Duke Blue Devils star has been one of the few highlights of their season. He is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He is shooting 48.2% from the field and over 30% from the three-point line.
Flagg has established himself as a frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year honor with these numbers. His strongest competition in the ROTY race is his former Duke teammate Kon Knueppel, who is averaging 18.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for the Charlotte Hornets.
As per the recent KIA Rookie Ladder, Flagg is at the number one position and is likely to win Rookie of the Year.
