One of the biggest news out of college basketball is the fiasco between the Kansas State Wildcats and their now-former head coach Jerome Tang. It will be fair to say that Kansas State is down in the trenches right now. They have won only one game in conference play and have a horrendous 1-11 record in Big 12 and 10-15 overall. They are 15th on the table and are on a six-game losing streak.
Amid all this, after their last game, Tang could not control and unloaded on his players. Many believe he went overboard. Although he said what he truly felt and did not mince his words, his choice of words was certainly an issue for Kansas State. Tang said that the Kansas State players did not deserve to wear the jersey and half of them would not even be in the team next season.
This did not sit right with the Kansas State management and they decided to fire Jerome Tang with immediate effect. The firing turned ugly as Kansas State has now refused to pay Tang what he was owed from his contract. Stephen A. Smith has expressed his discontent around the situation.
“Plenty of coaches have said you’re an embarrassment. You’re awful. You know, but to say they don’t deserve to wear the uniform and to say very few of them will be here next year. Sir, you didn’t have to go that far. Coach Tang, you brought them there. You brought them there. So, what does that say about you if you’re speaking that, you know, if you’re excoriating them to that degree?” Stephen A. Smith said.
“That is an indictment against you every bit as much as it is against them because you’re the one who selected them and allowed them to be in the uniform to begin with. But with that said, still in all, there’s no reason, there’s no justification for the for the administration at Kansas State to then sit there and say, ‘We don’t have to honor a contract that we’ve signed this man to.’ There are coaches who have said things and it’s it’s warranted them being fired, but it doesn’t mean you don’t pay them. It doesn’t mean you don’t give them the money that you don’t owe them,” Stephen A. Smith sounded off.
