Charles Bediako Eligibility Update: NCAA Make Major Decision to Affect Alabama Star’s College Career

Charles Bediako has been a hot topic in the college basketball world of late. He played in the G-League when he sued the NCAA to grant him eligibility to return to college basketball. Bediako previously played college basketball with Alabama in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. He could never cement his position in any NBA team and did not feature in any game.

When Baylor signed James Nnaji from the G-League, there was a lot of debate around his eligibility to play. Renowned coaches, analysts, and most fans were discontent with the decision and argued against letting him play.

John Calipari led the protests when he suggested that G-League players and NBA draftees should not be allowed to play in college basketball, as it is unfair to high school student-athletes. He was supported by Rick Pitino who said that ‘it doesn’t look like the sport he once loved.’ Tom Izzo also ranted about the unfairness, lack of regulations, and transfer portal.

After all the outbursts, the NCAA did not grant Charles eligibility. However, he then sued the NCAA, and an Alabama judge ruled in his favor. Charles did get to play five games for Nate Oats’ Alabama. In between those games, the judge got replaced, and Charles’ future hung in the balance. Now a new judge has made a ruling, and the NCAA is abiding by it. This has put an abrupt stop to Charles’ revival of college career.

“Former pro Charles Bediako has been denied a preliminary injunction against the NCAA and will no longer be eligible to play for Alabama this season,” On3 wrote on Instagram.
