Arizona State Sun Devils coach Bobby Hurley will reportedly no longer be a part of the program after the current campaign, ending over a decade-long tenure. On Monday, March 9, the Sun Devils program announced that it will part ways with Hurley after the 2025-26 season, after a subpar campaign so far.
Hurley has been with the Arizona-based program for quite some time now, 11 years to be exact, as he joined in 2015. While he has led the Sun Devils to three different NCAA tournament appearances, ASU has had a difficult year so far. They possess an overall record of 15-16 (7-11 Big 12) and are likely to miss this year’s national tournament unless they win the Big 12 conference tournament.
With this, let’s look at five candidates that the Sun Devils can scout as their new head coach after parting ways with Dan Hurley’s brother, Bobby.
Top 5 Candidates to Replace Bobby Hurley at Arizona State
#5 Wes Miller
Cincinnati Bearcats coach Wes Miller and his program are subtly hinting at a parting of ways soon, as the Bearcats have not improved since the 2024-25 campaign. Still, Miller has established himself as a coach who can deliver under pressure. He can instill that same mentality at Arizona State in the hopes of leading them to March Madness.
#4 Randy Bennett
Saint Mary’s Gaels coach Randy Bennett has been with his program for over two decades now, as he started his run in 2001. This means that Bennett has proven his worth as an established coach. The Sun Devils may try hiring him in the hopes of building a team culture that lasts.
#3 Earl Grant
Boston College Eagles shot-caller Earl Grant‘s time with his program may be ending soon, given that the Eagles have not found success as of late with any coach. Given Grant’s resume as a tactician, it may not be a surprise if he opts to make himself available to ASU.
#2 Chris Gerlufsen
When there were rumblings that Bobby Hurley and the Sun Devils program may be parting ways last year in the 2024-25 campaign, San Francisco Dons coach Chris Gerlufsen’s name kept emerging. This is because he can lead a new charge with a whole different culture at ASU, given that he has been one of the most successful coaches at San Francisco ever.
#1 Richard Pitino
Richard Pitino is the son of legendary college basketball figure Rick Pitino. After leading the New Mexico Lobos to the 2025 NCAA tournament, he has since taken on the role as the head coach of the Xavier Musketeers.
To say that Xavier’s outing this year has been disappointing can be an understatement, so Richard Pitino can opt to transfer to ASU after this season to get out of his father’s shadow in the Big East conference.
