Caleb Wilson Joins Michael Jordan in Elite Company After Becoming Fourth Pick at NBA Draft

Caleb Wilson made history not just for himself and his family, but for the University of North Carolina as a whole, as he got selected at no. 4 overall at the NBA draft. In doing so, the former UNC man has become the highest drafted UNC player to go to the Chicago Bulls since Michael Jordan at the NBA draft.

We have to go all the way back to 1984 at the NBA draft to find the last time the Chicago Bulls selected someone higher than Caleb Wilson, with Michael Jordan becoming the third overall pick for the Bulls at the time.

Such was Jordan’s dominance and hype around the time, owing to his stellar campaign at UNC under then head coach, Dean Smith, that the Bulls simply could not resist giving him an opportunity on the biggest stage.

As history unfolded, it turned out to be the greatest decision in Chicago Bulls history, with Michael Jordan leading the Bulls to multiple NBA Championships and in the process becoming arguably the greatest basketball player that ever lived.

Caleb Wilson has the opportunity to leave a similar legacy at the Chicago Bulls if he can follow in Jordan’s footsteps, and he has seemingly taken that first step already by being drafted the highest from UNC for the Bulls since the iconic Jordan himself.

Caleb Wilson Brings a Lot More Than Raw Talent

The Chicago Bulls clearly saw a lot in Caleb Wilson even though he faced a few injury concerns during the latter part of his time at the North Carolina Tar Heels.

His physical tools, two-level scoring and extraordinary athleticism combined with defensive play-making and game smarts make him an excellent choice to become an instant starter in the NBA, but perhaps his shooting and handling would need some work to excel at the highest level.

With senior pros and a talented coaching team around, however, the sky is the limit for Wilson at the Chicago Bulls.
