AJ Dybantsa has been selected as the No. 1 draft pick at the 2026 NBA draft and will go to the Washington Wizards, but many will be wondering: How much money will he make at his new home? After all, Dybantsa is making a huge transition from college basketball to the NBA, and with that comes a whole lot of monetary gain.
Per Market Watch, Dybantsa stands to earn a whopping $69 Million as a result of going first in the NBA draft, with the league’s rookie wage scale coming into effect. The $69 Million amount will come in the form of deals that Dybantsa will be eligible to sign. Meanwhile, the No. 2 and No. 3 picks at the NBA draft can earn as much as $61 Million and $55 Million respectively over the course of four years.
In comparison, last year’s top pick at the NBA draft, Cooper Flagg, earned around $62.7 Million over the course of four years. With an increase in the NBA’s revenues, largely due to a lucrative media rights deal, those numbers are set to increase in favor of AJ Dybantsa and company.
That being said, how much a player make depends on how early they get selected in the NBA draft, with the No. 1 draft pick earning nearly $70 Million but a No. 8 pick earning much lesser in comparison, with just $34.4 Million in the bag over four years.
AJ Dybantsa Was the Projected Top Pick
It should come as no surprise that the big money bag went to AJ Dybantsa this year at the NBA draft. After all, he has been the talk of town since his high school days, and after excelling at BYU in one season, all NBA teams wanted a piece of him.
The draft lottery confirmed Washington Wizards would have the first crack, and they’ve gone as big as possible, making Dybantsa their priority and will give him the opportunity to fulfill his lifelong goals.
