Even with the controversies and questions on his health and professionalism, Kansas Jayhawks guard Darryn Peterson remains one of the biggest favorites to be drafted No. 1 by the Washington Wizards. A big guard with unquestionable talent and offensive capabilities, he has many teams lining up for him, even though he refused to meet with other teams other than the Wizards.
A lot of basketball personalities and analysts are lining up too, including former Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins, who was all praise for the Kansas guard on “First Take,” comparing him to Kobe Bryant.
“Darryn Peterson is to me the best prospect in this draft class, make no mistake about it,” said Perkins. “He has zero flaws offensively, and we always say the appetizer but we want the full course meal, and I get that, but his floor is Bradley Beal.”
“His ceiling, if he reaches it, is Kobe Bryant, that’s how talented this young man is,” he added.
Darryn Peterson is currently in a two-way race to be the No. 1 pick by the Washington Wizards, going head-to-head with his old rival, BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, once again. The two have had epic battles against one another since high school, and this continued on to college, with Peterson mostly coming out on top. However, with his injury problems and his reported refusal to play for Kansas, many believed it may have lowered his draft stock.
Report: Darryn Peterson’s Stock Rising With Washington Wizards
For now, AJ Dybantsa is seen as the probable No. 1 pick, with the Washington Wizards reportedly very high on him. However, reports are now saying that the team is giving Darryn Peterson “increased consideration.”
Right now, Washington needs a star to complete its rebuild, and either Dybantsa or Peterson can provide that. However, the team already has some good guards and needs to add a forward, which makes Dybantsa the likelier choice. These new reports could turn that belief around, though, as Peterson is making a late push.
