Caleb Wilson Injury Update: Is North Carolina Star Playing Today vs. Clemson?

Caleb Wilson’s injury hasn’t kept the North Carolina Tar Heels from rolling, but the team is still hoping for its star player to return to action soon.

After the Tar Heels’ win against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday night, head coach Hubert Davis was asked for an update on the team’s freshman forward. Davis expressed optimism that Wilson would be back on the court shortly.

“Yeah, there is an update,” Davis said. “He doesn’t have his cast on anymore, and can’t do anything five on five, but he can do individual workouts, and he can dribble, shoot, he can do everything, just nothing on contact. So that’s a huge benefit for us. He’s out of the cast and being able to work out.”

“Moving in the right direction,” Davis added. “So, he worked out the day before the game, and just was dribbling, shooting, catching, like normal.”

While Wilson is inching closer to a return, he is still not fit enough to play against the Clemson Tigers on Tuesday. However, according to reports, he could be eyeing a return against Duke on Saturday.

Caleb Wilson’s Absence Puts Additional Pressure on Veteran Teammates

Without Caleb Wilson for at least one more game, it is set to be another battle that will feature a heavy dosage of forward Henri Veesaar and guard Seth Trimble.

Aside from Wilson, Veesaar and Trimble have been the team’s scoring leaders this season. Veesaar is averaging 16.7 points per game, while Trimble is putting up 14.5 points per game. Of course, those two are not the only notable scorers with more on their plates.

Guard Luka Bogavac is hovering around double-digits with 9.8 points per game as a third option.

Luckily for Wilson’s Tar Heels, Tuesday’s opponent is unranked. However, on Saturday, if Wilson is unable to play, the Tar Heels will be forced to face the number one-ranked Duke without the team’s top scorer.

    Will it come to that?
