“Better Event Than NBA Finals”: Former Duke Star Makes Bold Admission After UFC Freedom 250

The UFC Freedom 250, a special UFC event held in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, was held on Sunday. Several fight cards were hosted in the iconic South Hall of the White House in Washington, D.C., with over 4,300 spectators present to witness the mixture of sports and national celebration.

While a UFC event of this magnitude at the White House was always going to be special, several sporting personalities couldn’t help but attest to the occasion’s remarkable nature.

During Monday’s broadcast of ESPN’s “First Take” hosted by analyst Stephen A. Smith, he raved about how remarkable the Flag Day celebrations were at the White House UFC event, calling it a “great, great event.”

Former Duke Blue Devils star point guard Jay Williams took it up a notch by comparing the UFC White House event to the NBA Finals.

“I was there (UFC White House)….4000 seater arena and i am going to be honest, coming off the NBA finals, where i was at multiple NBA finals…better event than the NBA finals. It was a better event than the NBA finals. With the White House being literally right there, incredible”, Williams sAId (0:10).

With the New York Knicks defeating the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 to win the 2026 NBA Finals, in a series where every game was closely contested, Williams’ comparison was a bold statement, especially coming from someone who has experienced the NBA firsthand.
