North Carolina freshman forward Caleb Wilson suffered a fracture in his left hand during the loss against Miami on Feb. 10. The imaging after the game confirmed the fracture, and he was ruled out indefinitely by the Tar Heels. The injury kept him out of North Carolina’s recent loss against NC State.
North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis shared that Wilson could return soon. The forward is 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds this season.
“Caleb, he is great,” Davis said Monday night. “I think if I said ‘OK,’ I think he would play with his cast on or his splint. I think he would. He’s just champing at the bit to come back because obviously he loves to play, but he loves his teammates and he loves playing here… He’ll be back on the floor soon, so that’ll be great.”
Wilson is working with a cast on his non-shooting hand, and Davis added he would be eager to play even with protective gear.
Wilson’s absence has turned out to be a significant loss for North Carolina as they suffered a loss against unranked NC State. The game also noted the absence of fellow forward Henri Veesaar. While there is an official timetable for the freshman forward to return, it remains to be seen if the freshman features in the upcoming game against Syracuse on the road.
North Carolina HC On Caleb Wilson Preparing For Return
Caleb Wilson has returned to practice sessions and is carrying a healthy attitude, according to coach Hubert Davis.
“He did the exact opposite,” Davis said. “He’s in practice. He’s dribbling with his right hand. He’s in the huddles.”
When UNC defeated Pitt 79-65 on Saturday without Wilson, he watched the film again and liked the freshman’s attitude with his fellow teammates.
“You will not have a better player, person, and teammate than Caleb,” Davis said. “It’s just impossible. There is just no way you can do it. What a great example of when things weren’t particularly going his way in regards to his hand, he’s still a great teammate.”
Wilson is a projected top-five pick in the 2026 NBA draft. UNC will hope for him to return soon.
