Caleb Foster Injury Update: Jon Scheyer Provides Insight on Duke Star’s Availability for Sweet 16 Game vs Rick Pitino’s St. John’s

Jon Scheyer has proven himself to be a worthy successor to the legendary Mike Krzyzewski. Although not many can emulate what Coach K has done for Duke and college basketball, it would be safe to say that Scheyer has not let his mentor down. Duke hasn’t missed a beat since Coach K’s departure in 2022.

Duke has a loaded roster yet again this season. Cameron Boozer, son of Duke legend Carlos Boozer, has played like a pro and made his case for a top spot in the NBA draft. Cameron is averaging 22.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. But he is not the only player who can turn the game in Duke’s favor. Isaiah Evans, Patrick Ngongba, Dame Sarr, Caleb Foster, Maliq Brown, and Nikolas Khamenia all have had their moments this season.

Losing any one of those players at this crucial stage of the season can be a problem for Scheyer. Ngongba has been struggling with a few injuries, and so has Foster. As per reports and head coach Scheyer, Foster has worked extremely hard and might play against St. John’s in the Sweet 16.

“It’s been a different experience, right, with both these guys. One, Pat responded well. You never know how that’s gonna go, but he is on track to play again tomorrow, which is a really big deal for us. And Caleb, I just go back to when he got hurt. He told me, ‘Look, if I do this and work every day, you gotta promise me you’re gonna let me put this uniform on again without guys,’ and he’s in a position where he can try to do that tomorrow night,” Scheyer said.

“He had a good day of practice yesterday. Doing a little bit, we have to see how he feels today. Hopefully, he progresses well enough tomorrow, where, you know, again, it’s not like there is a lot of practice time, but we have to make sure he is in position before the game. It’ll be more of a game-time decision. But he’s gonna give it everything he has to go tomorrow night,” Jon Scheyer shared.

Jon Scheyer’s Journey as Duke HC

Before becoming the head coach, Scheyer was an assistant for four years. After taking over the Blue Devils, he led Duke to three ACC tournament championships along with back-to-back ACC regular season championships.

Jon Scheyer’s Duke reached the final four last season (with Cooper Flagg) and has reached the Sweet 16 this year.

Duke is one of the favorites this season to win its sixth national title after a wait of over 11 years. They are the top-seeded team. It would not be wrong to say that there aren’t many better teams than Duke.

In most matchups, Duke is touted to come out on top. However, their Sweet 16 opponents are Rick Pitino’s St. John’s. There is no guaranteed winner or a favorite in that game. It won’t be easy for either side, but it sure will be one hell of a game.
