UConn Huskies shooting guard Braylon Mullins’ parents are Josh Mullins and Katie Mullins. The family has deep roots in Greenfield, Indiana. Josh and Katie were high school sweethearts at Greenfield-Central High School in the late 1990s.
Josh played collegiate basketball first at Lincoln Trail Junior College. Later, he played at IUPUI (now IU Indianapolis), where he was a starter on their 2003 NCAA tournament team. He later worked as an assistant coach at Greenfield-Central High School while Braylon studied there.
Josh has played a major role in his son’s basketball career. He trained the Huskies’ shooting guard and coached him from a young age. To date, he is Braylon’s biggest critic. Professionally, Josh works as a school resource officer with the Greenfield Police Department.
Braylon’s mother, Katie, also attended Greenfield-Central, where she was a cheerleader.
Braylon Mullins is the eldest among Josh and Katie’s three boys. His younger twin brothers, Cole and Clay, also played basketball at Greenfield-Central. They are now committed to play at the Division III level (Franklin University).
At present, Braylon Mullins is a key part of Dan Hurley’s quest for a third consecutive national title. On March 29, he fixed his status as a UConn legend during the Elite Eight clash with top-seeded Duke.
Trailing by two points with seconds remaining, UConn forced a turnover. Mullins received a pass from Alex Karaban and drained a 35-foot game-winning three-pointer with just 0.3 seconds left on the clock. The shot led to a 19-point comeback. It stunned Duke and sent the Huskies to the Final Four in Indianapolis.
It was a homecoming for Mullins, who grew up just 30 minutes away in Greenfield.
Mullins entered UConn as a five-star recruit and Indiana’s “Mr. Basketball.” Nicknamed “The Bringer of Rain” by Coach Hurley for his high-arcing jumper, he has been a steady offensive force.
Braylon Mullins’ Father Josh Mullins Over the Moon For His Son Ahead of UConn vs. Illinois
Braylon Mullins’ father, Josh, is excited to soak in a moment that once felt like a dream. Speaking to 13Sports during the Huskies’ Final Four open practice on Friday, Josh struggled to put the experience into words.
“It is surreal, unreal, you name it,” he said. “I don’t know that there’s a word that I could give you that could describe it. To come back to Indy on a shot like that –it is unbelievable.”
Meanwhile, Braylon’s mom, Katie, was equally excited.
“For him to be the one to bring UConn to Indianapolis and himself back home, that right there is crazy to think about,” she said. “We were always told that they were going to get him back to Indy. Well, he took them back to Indy. It’s just nuts.”
For UConn, a win will bring them closer to a third national title in four years. Also, this game is a high-stakes rematch of the 2024 Elite Eight, where UConn defeated Illinois 77-52.
Sunday’s winner will face either Arizona or Michigan in the National Championship game on April 6.
