Arizona Fans Turn On Tommy Lloyd as he Refuses to Reject UNC Rumors

Arizona Wildcats coach Tommy Lloyd is in the mix as a potential candidate for the open head coaching position at the North Carolina Tar Heels, who recently fired Hubert Davis after five seasons and a first-round exit in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

On the other hand, Lloyd and his team are gearing up for a Final Four appearance. At a press conference on Tuesday, he broke his silence on his name being in the mix as Davis’ replacement. He also cleared the air about his previous comments about the Arizona program having “another good coach” after him.

“It’s absolutely true. There’s gonna be another coach,” Lloyd said. “This is a great program. I didn’t say when. People are gonna speculate all they want. Guys, this team has my full focus. Nothing, nothing, I promise you, nothing is knocking me off that path. You might call them distractions, because you’re distracted. But it doesn’t mean I’m distracted, or we’re distracted.”

However, fans online were not sold on Tommy Lloyd’s comments about staying with Arizona.

“Yikes, this answer leads me to think he’s actually considering leaving. Makes no sense… why,” one fan commented.

“Arizona should offer him lifetime deal & name a building after him. Otherwise, he’s out,” another fan said.

“Using it as leverage for a bigger contract,” this fan wrote.

“He could just end it by saying, ‘I will not be the UNC coach next year,” another fan said.

“Nothing says commitment like denying the distractions exist while secretly planning world domination,” this fan commented.
