AJ Dybantsa’s Statement Indirectly Calls Out Darryn Peterson, According to Fans

BYU Cougars’ AJ Dybantsa and Kansas Jayhawks’ Darryn Peterson have been two of the most talented players to emerge from this freshman class. Both have stood out in their appearances this season. These are two players who can be top candidates for the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Dybantsa is averaging 24.9 points in 27 games with 6.7 rebounds and 4 assists this season.

Peterson, on the other hand, has averaged 19.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists, though his biggest issue has been his availability. He has suffered from multiple hamstring injuries, and other instances of cramping have hindered his growth. He has played only 16 games and has averaged 27.2 minutes per game.

There have also been questions over his mentality and attitude. Fans and experts have doubted his intentions and willingness to play college basketball. Many believe this is also affecting his NBA draft stock.

There have also been some other freshmen who have played brilliantly this season. Cameron Boozer is one of them. He is also capable of getting on that NBA draft podium. Other big talents include Darius Acuff Jr. and Caleb Wilson. However, right at the top of every prediction and mock draft right now is AJ Dybantsa, who recently made sure that nobody doubts his commitment and dedication to the game.

“I mean, it’s not my decision. Uh, coach thought, you know, I was ready for it. I mean, obviously, I’m in shape. I mean, I work out a lot. Um, I try to stay in shape, but if I need to play 40 minutes to win it, I’ll play 40 minutes to win,” Dybantsa said.

With all the comparisons between AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson, fans thought he was taking a dig at Peterson.
