It’s been reported that Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self met with the higher-ups of the Kansas program after his team’s stunning 84-68 home loss to unranked Cincinnati on Saturday. It was Kansas’ worst home loss to an unranked opponent in 53 years.
Collegiate hoops reporter Rob Reinhart posted on X/Twitter that Self met up with the boosters of the Jayhawks program and Athletic Director Travis Goff after the disappointing defeat against the Bearcats. The meeting was said to have been behind closed doors, as speculations swirled on what it was about.
College basketball fans are speculating that Self’s meeting with the boosters of his program and Goff is about star freshman Darryn Peterson, who has been in the spotlight recently due to his injury concerns.
“They want a refund on their NIL they spent on Peterson,” one user claimed with a GIF.
“This should have happened weeks ago when the cramps started,” another user said.
“Getting their $ back from Peterson,” another wrote.
“Had to be about Peterson,” a user shared.
Other users all over X/Twitter then discuss rumors going around that the closed-door meeting is actually about Self’s future with the team in his head-coaching role.
“KU fans are absolutely insufferable. Bill Self ain’t leaving until Bill Self WANTS to leave. Your problem is not Bill Self. You know the problem, but you’re too scared to deal with it,” one user explained.
“Won’t be any coaches left if we fire them after every disappointing loss,” another fan posted.
“Must be on the hot seat!,” a user exclaimed.
Self has been coaching the Kansas-based program since 2003. The team most recently won the national championship in 2022.
This 2025-26 campaign, Self and his staff are still to figure out what the lingering issues have been with Peterson, who has been in and out of the lineup.
Darryn Peterson Plays 30+ Minutes in Kansas Jayhawks’ Disappointing Loss to Cincinnati Bearcats
The Kansas Jayhawks lost to the Cincinnati Bearcats by 16 points, 84-68, in front of their own fans and supporters.
Amid ongoing concerns about his fitness and availability, Darryn Peterson played 32 minutes, scoring 17 points with four rebounds. Peterson, who is a consensus top-3 prospect for the 2026 NBA Draft, has had an underwhelming season for Kansas. He has only played in 16 of the team’s 27 games and is averaging well under 30 minutes per game.
Kansas now falls to a current overall record of 20-7 (10-4 Big 12), and is momentarily No. 4 in the 2026 Big 12 standings.
