As Duke prepare for life without Cameron Boozer’s heroics, it appears they have their man to take them to the very top in this coming season.
Jon Scheyer has put his faith in 2026 5-star recruit Cam Williams, at least if you ask the player himself. After committing to Duke in November, the 6’11” forward is convinced that he is Scheyer’s main soldier on the ground in the 2026-27 campaign.
“From what was told to me, I think I’m going to be the guy,” Williams told On3.
“So I just got to step into that role. And like I said, I feel like going to Duke, they’re going to help me with everything, help me get acclimated and adjusted to that role.”
Williams also spoke kindly of Jon Scheyer, mentioning a cool off-court demeanor that perhaps few get to witness.
“He’s a cool guy,” Williams mentioned.
“Off the court, like, you wouldn’t know that he’s the coach. He’s just a really cool guy, very respectful. He just gets along with people really well, and he’s got a good personality.”
Why Williams Chose Duke
Cam Williams had the world at his feet but chose the Blue Devils in particular, and he went into the reasons behind his choice.
“Honestly, compared to all the other schools I visited, the vibe was just different at Duke. I loved the atmosphere and the support behind the basketball team,” he went on.
”I trust them (the coaching staff). I know that Coach (Jon) Scheyer is going to help me with my development. That is one of the biggest pieces for me going to Duke. I mean, they’ve done it multiple times before, with guys like Jayson Tatum, Marvin Bagley, guys similar to me, Cooper Flagg. So that means they have a foundation for me, and I trust that.”
