Some high-profile names are attending the national championship game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Indiana Hoosiers. U.S. Secretary of State and Florida superfan, Marco Rubio, is in attendance as well.
Before kickoff, Rubio was seen on the field alongside his son, Anthony, who plays for the Florida Gators. Outkick founder Clay Travis got a chance to meet with Rubio and had a conversation with him.
When asked about what the moment means to a huge college football fan like him, Rubio stated that he’s expecting a great game and that it’s a “storybook setting” considering the Miami connection he has.
During his conversation with Travis, Rubio couldn’t help but throw a subtle jab at Miami in the spirit of keeping the rivalry alive. Rubio spoke on Miami’s controversial entry to the playoffs.
When asked if the Hurricanes will play looser now since they’ve won three games and have shown that they’ve nothing left to prove, he said:
“Yeah, I think it’s just a team that peaked…Remember, they lost a couple of games in the middle of the season. And it looked like they were going off track again. They got it back on track and they’ve gone on a run.”
“So, timing is everything. This is a team that sort of peaked at the right time, going into the playoffs…They come in here with a lot of momentum, but I mean, Indiana has had momentum all year.”
Rubio stated that the Hurricanes have a lot more talent on the roster. They have 12-13 draftable players compared to Indiana’s six. However, in Rubio’s opinion, these things don’t matter once the game starts.
Marco Rubio Outlined Miami’s Biggest Problem in the National Championship Game
Rubio spoke passionately about several aspects of the game involving both teams in the final. He stated that Indiana is a very disciplined team, and he expects them to be in control for the most part.
The biggest problem that Miami will have to deal with is their inconsistency and tendency to take on penalties.
“Indiana is very disciplined, Miami has a tendency to take on a bunch of penalties. So, no cheap stuff, no pre-snap penalties is gonna be the key to Miami.”
Rubio predicted that it’ll be a mid-scoring game and the Miami Hurricanes will win 28-21.
