Tyrann Mathieu did pretty well for himself in terms of a football career, becoming a Super Bowl Champion and accomplishing several accolades along the way, but there seems to be one regret that was eating away at the former NFL star, and it appears he finally got his answer from Lane Kiffin about it.
On his podcast, “In the Bayou”, Mathieu invited LSU head coach Lane Kiffin to talk about all things football, and brought up the fact that Kiffin and his coaching staff didn’t select him at Tennessee.
After being questioned about the apparent snub, Kiffin made it clear that certain duties on scouting lay with Ed Orgeron and Frank Wilson and might have been joking about how it was his Orgeron’s and Wilson’s fault that Mathieu didn’t end up at the team.
“How did you miss out on me man, at Tennessee that year? I was the best player in that camp,” Mathieu asked.
“I brought Orgeron down. He was supposed to stay for this question because he was the recruiting coordinator that day… He takes the blame for that,” Kiffin said.
“I was more with the offensive guys and Coach O and Frank Wilson were there. So they kind of gave me the defensive report and they’re like man, he didn’t really run a good 40, like not quite that tall, so I’m blaming Frank and Orgeron for that.”
Lane Kiffin’s New Chapter With LSU
Since Lane Kiffin’s short spell at Tennessee, plenty has happened in the coach’s professional life, with stints at USC, Alabama, Florida Atlantic and Ole Miss before most recently making the controversial move to LSU.
The LSU appointment has been especially noteworthy since it has come with significant backlash from his former employers Ole Miss who were clearly at odds with Kiffin over his departure, and Kiffin has fueled the fire further by taking some cheeky shots over the months since his move away. Nevertheless, Kiffin and his crew will have their sights on a big season for the LSU Tigers this time around.
