Coaching changes usually mean an exodus of players via the transfer portal, and LSU is no exception, as a lot of players entered the transfer portal as soon as it opened following Lane Kiffin’s takeover of the team. However, Kiffin is currently making up for those losses by signing other transfer players from the portal, including his biggest haul so far, former Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt, one of this year’s top transfer portal prizes.
Kiffin had been busy since the portal opened, expecting a mass exodus because of the new coaching change, as he quickly made up for some of his losses with some big signings. The portal has not closed yet, so he may have some big names coming in soon, but for now, here are the ones that he has gotten the commitment of:
LSU Transfer Portal Additions So Far
- OL Ja’Mard Jones (Nicholls)
- TE Zach Grace (Oregon)
- QB Husan Longstreet (USC)
- RB Dilin Jones (Wisconsin)
- QB Sam Leavitt (Arizona State)
- WR Roman Mothershed (Troy)
- OT Darrin Strey (Kentucky)
- WR Winston Watkins (Ole Miss)
- QB Landen Clark (Elon)
- DL Achilles Woods (South Alabama)
- IOL Tyree Holloway (West Florida)
- WR William Satterwhite (Tennessee)
- DB Treylan James (Southern)
- WR Josh Jackson (McNeese)
- WR Malik Elzy (Syracuse)
- EDGE Jordan Ross (Tennessee)
- OL Ja’Quan Sprinkle (NC Central)
- EDGE Jaylen Brown (South Carolina)
- DT Malik Blocton (Auburn)
- K Scott Starzyk (Arkansas)
- LS Mack Mulhur (Florida)
- P Hayden Craig (Florida)
- WR Eugene Wilson III (Florida)
- WR Jayce Brown (Kansas State)
- RB Rod Gainey (Charlotte)
- DL Stephiylan Green (Clemson)
- S Ty Benefield (Boise State)
- WR Tre’ Brown (Old Dominion)
- TE Malachi Thomas (Pittsburgh)
- RB Raycine Guillory (Utah)
- WR Jackson Harris (Hawaii)
That is quite the haul from Lane Kiffin, though it is a surprise that only one of his former players from Ole Miss actually came to Baton Rouge and followed the coach there. One player that he was originally expecting, even teasing his transfer, was QB1 Trinidad Chambliss, but the NCAA ultimately ruled that he was out of eligibility after playing college football for six years now.
With Garrett Nussmeier already a senior and expected to leave, Kiffin initially struggled to land a new quarterback, with him hitting a snag on Chambliss. But it was Sam Leavitt who saved the day for him in the end.
