The Clemson Tigers and the Florida Gators were snubbed as head coach Will Stein’s Kentucky Wildcats secured the commitment of 2027 defensive line prospect Griff Galloway. The edge rusher is listed at 6-foot-4 and 260 lbs.
Galloways reportedly chose Kentucky over well-established football programs like Virginia Tech, Clemson and Florida. He wrote the following while announcing his decision:
“All glory to God. Go Big Blue Nation”
According to Rivals Industry Rankings, Galloway is ranked No. 625 nationally, No. 56 in his position and No. 22 in North Carolina. He attended Providence Day School in Charlotte and was offered by several programs, including Kentucky, Clemson, Florida, Notre Dame and Nebraska.
Kentucky was suspected to already know his commitment decision since the new defensive coordinator, Jay Bateman, teased this commitment on Friday in a social media post. Not long before this announcement, Bateman even went to visit Galloway.
Galloway’s father, Lonnie Galloway, is actually an assistant at Clemson. So the decision was a little strange but expected since he visited Lexington this spring.
With this recruitment, Stein closed down on his 18th pledge of this recruiting cycle. Moreover, it was his third recruitment this week alone, as he is on a hot streak, it seems. The other two recruitments were of four-star cornerback Miles Brown and three-star running back Kelsey Gerald.
Coaches Share Thoughts on Will Stein Era in Kentucky
Kentucky hired Will Stein as head coach following his successful stint with Oregon as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. This is the first time Stein will perform head coach duties, so there is a lot of intrigue about what he will be able to do in Lexington.
Athlon Sports surveyed some coaches who shared their thoughts on this era in Kentucky. One coach doubts if Stein will be able to replicate Oregon’s success in Kentucky.
“With the talent base that (new head coach Will Stein) inherited, the only thing I wonder about is the fact that he had more talent than everybody else at Oregon for most of the games,” one coach said. “It’ll be interesting to see him going from one of the haves to one of the have-nots and how that’s going to transition while still not losing your enthusiasm, your connection with the players and all of those kinds of things.”
It remains to be seen if Will Stein can do well in Lexington.
