When Ole Miss reached the College Football Playoff semifinal round, many of their players were holding out from entering the transfer portal, as they were on the cusp of winning a national title. After getting eliminated by Miami, however, the floodgates have opened, losing even more players. However, it seems that head coach Pete Golding has more than made up for those losses in the transfer portal, landing one of the most coveted QBs.
Deuce Knight, who used to play for the Auburn Tigers, left the team for the transfer portal and has now announced that he will be playing for the Ole Miss Rebels. This comes as current QB1 Trinidad Chambliss was denied eligibility by the NCAA. However, there are also reports that, should he have been eligible, he might have entered the transfer portal and followed Lane Kiffin to LSU, making the Ole Miss QB search all the more important.
Knight was a true freshman at Auburn and was considered a five-star prospect when he was still in high school. He served as a backup quarterback with the Tigers, though he did not play as much. He finished his first year of college at Auburn with 259 passing yards and two touchdowns, along with 13 carries for 178 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, making him one of the best freshman dual-threat quarterbacks out there today.
While he is seen as the possible replacement for Trinidad Chambliss, he will still need to fight for that QB1 spot, along with other current Ole Miss quarterbacks, as well as ones coming in from the portal.
Ole Miss Having Quarterback Problems After Trinidad Chambliss Denial
Deuce Knight’s signing with Ole Miss was rather timely, with Pete Golding moving in quickly to secure the freshman quarterback after the NCAA denied Trinidad Chambliss’ eligibility request.
With Chambliss now gone, backup quarterback Austin Simmons was supposed to be the one next in line. However, he too entered the transfer portal, leaving no clear quarterback to replace Chambliss as the starter. This forced Golding to act fast, and he delivered with Knight.
