“I Was Like, Holy Smokes”: Whit Weeks Shares Honest Reaction to Having Lane Kiffin As LSU HC While Dating His Daughter

Lane Kiffin’s daughter, Landry, and the LSU star Whit Weeks broke the internet when they went public with their relationship in the middle of the 2025 college football season.

Shortly after, Lane made the shocking decision to leave Ole Miss and took on the role of the LSU Tigers’ new head coach after they fired Brian Kelly.

Weeks revealed his honest reaction to having his girlfriend’s dad as his head coach in a conversation with Tyrann Mathieu on Tuesday.

“Well, jeez, whenever me and Landry started dating, we would have never thought in a million years her dad would ever be my coach. Never, never in a million years,” the LSU linebacker said on Tyrann Mathieu’s In the Bayou podcast today. “Once Brian Kelly got fired, I was like, ‘Holy smokes, like Lane really could be the guy.’ So then all we were like, ‘All right, whatever, let’s go. Let’s roll with it.’”

Lane Kiffin Expresses Confidence in LSU Tenure As Head Coach

Lane Kiffin’s decision to leave Ole Miss was among the most shocking ones as he left the program just before their playoff run last year.

During a conversation with Tyrann Mathieu last week, Kiffin expressed contentment about his decision to join LSU as their new head coach and even called it “the best job in America.”

Many analysts predicted that Kiffin’s decision to join LSU was because he would have more chances of winning a national championship there, and now that it’s been a few months since his arrival, the Tigers’ head coach is confident about his future with the program.

“I don’t know how fast it’s going to happen, but we’re going to win a national championship,” Kiffin told Mathieu. “We’re going to have the teams and the rosters back to the way they were playing when they were great. I don’t know how fast. It might not be today, but it’s going to happen.

“I feel it in recruiting, too. Now that we’ve got our staff fully here and we know how to sell LSU because we’re meeting with everyone, it’s one of one. It’s what Nick Saban said. It’s the best job in America.”

The LSU head coach further spoke about how recruiting feels different at LSU and that they’re hosting recruits almost every weekend.

Kiffin added that he aims to make other programs fear LSU as they did during his tenure at Alabama.
