While many are already questioning projected No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza as a generational player, another high pick in the draft is also getting some doubters, and that is Jeremiyah Love. The Notre Dame running back had been one of the best players in that position last season, but not many believe he will be able to translate as well in the pros.
During ESPN’s “Get Up” morning talk show, the SEC Network’s Jordan Rodgers expressed his doubts regarding Jeremiyah Love, telling his co-hosts that he does not believe the RB is a generational player and is not good enough to be picked No. 3 overall in the NFL draft.
“Under no circumstance can you take Jeremiyah Love number three,” Rodgers said. “You’re gonna owe him $50 million in guaranteed money, that is more than Saquon (Barkley), that is more than Christian McCaffrey, more than Derek Henry. You can’t do this especially when you don’t have a quarterback, you don’t have an offensive identity right now. You can’t add a player like that and expect to take the next step.”
“He’s not a generational player,” he added.
The SEC Network analyst was talking about the current chaos with the new Arizona Cardinals coaching staff, especially as the team still does not have a starting quarterback and still has no offensive foundation to build a team around.
Rodgers also pointed out that Love did not do as well as the best defenses in college football, getting shut down by Miami and Ohio State with their stellar defense. This is why he stated that he does not see the running back as a potential top 5 pick, let alone a No. 3 pick.
Arizona Cardinals May Just Use No. 3 Pick of Jeremiyah Love as Trade Bait, Believes Analyst
With all the negativity surrounding Jeremiyah Love, Yahoo Sports Daily hosts Caroline Fenton and Jason Fitz discussed his potential as the No. 3 pick with the Cards. While Fenton believes he could fit in with any team, including Arizona, she believes that they could just be using him as trade bait.
She noted that the Cardinals have been very loud in announcing that they are aiming for Love and Fenton believes that this might be a signal to teams that need a running back this year that they are willing to trade.
