Texas football fans were willing to roll out the red carpet for Cam Coleman, but Coleman still has to go through another wide receiver to secure himself at the top of the pecking order in the room. At least, that might be how one former NFL star sees it.
In a series of posts on X via cfbalerts, former Cowboys star Dez Bryant hyped up newcomer wide receiver Jermaine Bishop. Bryant opened the door for Bishop to be “just as dominant” as another well-known name.
“I can see him being just as dominant as Malachi Toney!” Bryant posted. “I can see Bishop line up in the wildcat! The backfield. I wouldn’t be surprised if he played defense a bit… his type don’t come around that often. Eye test don’t lie!”
That’s certainly high praise. If it turns out that way, the Texas Longhorns could have a Travis Hunter with added running back capabilities. Of course, the more positions that Bishop can fill, the wider the door for Cam Coleman to soak up the wide receiver opportunities as he tries to make his NFL case.
Jermaine Bishop and Cam Coleman’s Presence Offer Big Upside in Make-or-Break Moment For Hyped QB Prospect
Of course, for Jermaine Bishop and Cam Coleman, the WR1 role could be everything. However, no matter the result, the winner of the situation appears to be Arch Manning. Manning, coming off a notably improved season in 2025, now faces a moment that will make or break many college players looking to break into the professional level.
Without Bishop or Coleman, Manning completed 248 of 404 passes for 26 touchdowns, seven interceptions and 3,163 yards in 13 games.
Breaking into the 40s in terms of touchdowns could be the difference between finding himself in hot water at the next level or set up for success. Luckily for Manning, he appears to already have two star players he can rely on.
Of course, if it doesn’t go according to plan, Bishop and Coleman could go down with the ship. As a young player, Bishop will have an opportunity to recover, but Coleman could end up digging himself an inescapable hole with a down season. Will Texas be the petri dish of the next trio of future NFL stars?
