In a surprise move, incoming sophomore QB Emile Picarella III is leaving LSU in the middle of the season. He only spent one season over at Baton Rouge as a preferred walk-on, choosing the Tigers instead of entertaining offers from other schools.
“I’ve decided to move on from LSU. I’ll always appreciate my teammates, the old and new staff, and the opportunity I had there. I wish the program nothing but success,” Emile Picarella III said.
LSU has a deep quarterback room led by Sam Leavitt, so the Tigers will probably be fine. The question now is, where would Emile Picarella III go next? He had several offers from big schools, and here are some places he could go to:
Possible Landing Spots for New Transferee Emile Picarella III
Ole Miss Rebels
Trinidad Chambliss may have returned, but this is already his final year of eligibility. Pete Golding is now looking for his replacement, and it could be a toss-up as to who it would be. Should he choose to go to Oxford, Picarella would be a good fit for backup, and if he waits just one more year, he could be the next QB1.
Houston Cougars
Houston was one of the schools that sent him an offer and they could finally get the quarterback they originally wanted. While they still have Conner Weigman, a junior, as their QB1, Picarella could bide his time here and probably challenge for the QB1 spot as soon as Weigman leaves, be it the transfer portal, the NFL draft or losing eligibility.
Pittsburgh Panthers
The Panthers originally tried recruiting Picarella as well, though they soon ended up with Mason Heintschel as their QB1. Like Picarella, Heintschel is also a freshman and incoming sophomore, so if he chooses to go Pitt, he could force a quarterback showdown and maybe earn that QB1 spot. However, Heintschel was not bad last season and showed a lot of promise, so this could be tough.
Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky’s QB situation is in flux right now, but former Notre Dame backup QB Kenny Minchey is projected to be the new QB1. He still has to earn that spot though, and Picarella could come in and take that starting spot from right under his nose.
