It has been a whirlwind recruitment season for the Texas A&M Aggies, with Mike Elko going on overdrive and landing not one, not two, but five five-star recruits for the 2027 cycle. He just received the commitment from five0star offensive tackle Mark Matthews from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is the No. 6 overall recruit from the Class of 2027 and the No. 1 offensive tackle.
He will be joining fellow five-star Texas A&M commits in safety Kamarui Dorsey, inside offensive lineman Kennedy Browm, EDGE Zyron Forstall and corner back Raylaun Henry. Of all of them, Matthews is the one who is ranked highest in their class.
Matthews chose Texas A&M over Miami, LSU and Georgia. With his commitment, the Aggies now have 14 commits from the Class of 2027, eight of which are Top 100 recruits. This means that Mike Elko is doing really well in the high school recruiting front as he aims to secure that No. 1 draft class ranking.
For now, Elko just needs to hold on to those five five-star recruits, keep them happy and excited about the program and make sure none of them flip. They have not yet officially signed with Texas A&M and have all just verbally committed to the program, which means other schools can still flip them, and this is where the real challenge for Eiko begins.
How Texas A&M’s Class of 2027 Recruitment Is Looking So Far
The first commitment from the Class of 2027 came in November 2025 when then-four-star Hampton (Ga.) safety Kamarui Dorsey committed to the program, followed by then-four-star Baltimore St. Frances Academy cornerback Raylaun Henry. Both soon became five-stars.
Waxahachie (Texas) four-star safety JayQuan Snell, Inglewood four-star defensive lineman Myels Smith, IMG Academy five-star EDGE Zyron Forstall, , Houston Kingwood five-star interior offensive lineman Kennedy Brown and Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County four-star wide receiver Jaden Upshaw.
They were soon joined by Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson, Warner Robins (Ga.) Northside four-star defensive lineman Elijah Patmon and Houston Cy Falls four-star EDGE Kaden McCarty. Mark Matthews would then join in and become the class’ crown jewel.
