T10) Coco Azema, DB, Northwestern: 20.8 mph
Northwestern’s Coco Azema hit a blazing 20.8 mph on the opening kickoff return of the second half of the Maryland contest. It didn’t go for a score, but Azema sparked the Wildcats in their victory.
T10) Mo Edwards, WR, Eastern Kentucky: 20.8 mph
Making his name known against Utah Tech, Mo Edwards beat the coverage unit and found open space thanks to his speed. Edwards topped out at 20.8 mph in the open field.
T10) Ryan Montgomery, RB, Cincinnati: 20.8 mph
Cincinnati Bearcats running back Ryan Montgomery hit the edge against Oklahoma State and couldn’t be stopped. Montgomery maxed out at 20.8 mph on the 63-yard touchdown run.
9) Jaydon Blue, RB, Texas: 20.9 mph
Breaking through against BYU, Jaydon Blue took a carry to the outside and beat every defender in sight. Blue turned the corner and maxed out at 20.9 mph on the touchdown run.
T7) Chris Tyree, WR, Notre Dame: 21.0 mph
It took some bobbing and weaving, but Chris Tyree weaved through the Pitt punt coverage unit and maxed out at 21.0 mph on a long punt return touchdown that began Notre Dame’s rout of the Panthers.
T7) Dominic Dutton, WR, Old Dominion: 21.0 mph
When they say ‘speed kills,’ you can look up Dominic Dutton for Old Dominion. The track star and wide receiver burned the JMU defense on this 57-yard touchdown reception, hitting 21.0 mph in the process.
6) Jaydn Ott, RB, Cal: 21.1 mph
No stranger to this list of fastest players, Jaydn Ott hit 21.1 mph on the charts early against USC. Ott broke through the left side and simply outran the entire USC defense en route to six points.
5) Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas: 21.2 mph
Xavier Worthy makes his return to the fastest players list with an impressive punt return touchdown against BYU. The Texas Longhorns WR hit 21.2 mph as he darted through the Cougars’ punt coverage unit.
4) Blake Watson, RB, Memphis: 21.3 mph
A historic day for Blake Watson included an impressive athletic display. He cruised past the North Texas defense by breaking contain, bouncing a run outside, and hitting 21.3 mph on his way to the end zone.
3) Cartevious Norton, RB, Iowa State: 21.5 mph
It took him a minute, but Cartevious Norton broke through the Baylor defense. After shaking an arm tackle, Norton outran the entire Bears defense and hit 21.5 mph in the process.
2) Marcus Yarns, RB, Delaware: 21.8 mph
There is little defense for the speed that Marcus Yarns put on display in Week 9. Delaware’s running back took a screen pass the distance by hurdling over an arm tackle and outrunning the entire Towson defense with 21.8 mph as his top speed.
1) Jason Bean, QB, Kansas: 22.4 mph
We’ll say this: Jason Bean was cookin’ on this touchdown run against Oklahoma. You could feel it, and even Bean himself knew he was up to something special when he crossed the goal line. Bean hit 22.4 mph on the touchdown run that sparked the Jayhawks over Oklahoma.
